Continuing Education Scholarships Eukaryotic ubiquitin system is the key to protein degradation and regulation of cellular signaling pathways controlling major events such as the inflammatory response and apoptosis and therefore are often manipulated by microbial invaders (1). Viral proteins have been shown to interact with the enzyme ubiquitin path to avoid the immune response and cellular degradation and promotes cell survival for the benefit of the virus (2). This project will investigate the molecular basis of how proteins from human
viruses papillomavirus, which is the main cause of cervical cancer worldwide, the target enzyme human deubiquinating. We Continuing Education Scholarships will use X-ray crystallography, cell biology and biochemistry studies to characterize the interaction.
